But, the production of abalone in general has declined primarily because of unregulated exploitation. Predation, both in the wild and in grow-out cages may also contribute to the decrease of abalone production. WebAbalone are marine gastropod molluscs found in temperate and tropical waters around the world. There are almost 100 different species, all belonging to the genus Haliotis. However, only about 10–20 species are currently used in commercial production. There are 3 species of tropical abalone found in Thailand: H. asinina, H. ovina, and H. varia.
